Slanted walls can make it really hard to stick or hang anything on your walls.

They’ll either keep falling off, and even if they do stay up, they probably won’t look too good. Imagine a piece of artwork on a slanted wall. Looks kind of funny, right? That’s the issue.

The angle of the wall also makes it really difficult to hang other common bedroom items, such as curtains. Remember, curtains fall straight down and that rule won’t change with slanted walls.

So what you’ll have are slanted walls with straight curtains that don’t properly cover your windows.

Creating the coziest bedroom possible requires a lot of work on your part. Most “cozy bedroom creating” factors are under your control. For example, you have to mess around with lighting, wall color, wallpaper, furniture, and so much more.

But the one factor that you can’t control is the shape/structure of your room itself. Yup, this is where your sloped walls come into play.

Slanted walls typically come with lower ceiling heights, such as attics. And with this lower ceiling height comes enclosure and comfort, creating the coziest bedroom atmosphere.

4 Simple Steps for How to Decorate a Bedroom with Slanted Walls

Unlike many interior designers say, decorating a bedroom with slanted walls is a lot easier and more affordable than it seems. With these 4 steps, you can achieve your dream bedroom even with slanted walls.

Step 1: Assess Your Bedroom Space and Walls

The first step is to assess your bedroom space and walls. This step begins to overcome the challenges I described earlier. To recap, the two challenges were limited wall decor and furniture placement options.

To quickly assess and understand your bedroom space and walls, all you need to do is answer a few questions about your bedroom. Trust me, these questions will make this entire process of how to decorate a bedroom with slanted walls MUCH easier.

1. How many slanted walls do you have?
2. Do you have a slanted ceiling?
3. How slanted are your bedroom walls?
4. How big is your bedroom? For reference, the average bedroom is about 224 square feet
5. What kind of lighting do you have? Any natural light?

Make sure to keep these questions (and answers) handy because I’ll be referring to them constantly throughout the next 3 steps.

Step 2: Plan Your Decor and Design Process

This is one of the biggest and most important steps, so it will take you the longest. Now is when you will overcome But I’ll simplify it as much as possible for you.

Decorate Your Slanted Bedroom Walls Themselves

The biggest part of bedroom decor comes from decorating your walls.

In most bedrooms, you’ll probably see canvases and other wall art as the overall wall decor. However, you can’t always apply that design style to slanted bedroom walls because it just doesn’t look as good (refer to the image above).

What you want to do instead is use patterned/designer wallpapers or vines to decorate the slanted walls in your bedroom. Here’s the good news: they both are really EASY to place, even on slanted walls.

I specifically suggest patterned/designer wallpapers over solid color ones because they’re better value for your money. Solid color wallpapers typically look really similar to painted bedroom walls, so why not go with the cheaper option?

While both wallpapers and vines are great options, I highly recommend that you only choose one. And that’s because most patterned/designer wallpapers don’t go well with vines.

Pro tip: make sure to choose the correct bedroom wall paint color if you opt for the vines. It will add a lot more aesthetic to your bedroom.

Invest in Low Furniture

With slanted walls come sloped ceilings (sometimes). With slanted walls and sloped ceilings come low ceilings (typically).

These low ceilings are a pain in the back when you’re trying to decorate your bedroom. Most headboards are so high that they occupy almost the entire space, making your bedroom feel a lot smaller.

That’s why you need low furniture that doesn’t immediately fill up your entire bedroom and creates the illusion of more space.

Here’s the only downside: you may already have bedroom furniture. In that case, replacing all your furniture would be really expensive and honestly not worth the effort and money.

So just keep this tip saved in the back of your head, and whenever a piece of furniture needs replace, just know that low furniture is the way to go.

Arrange Your Furniture Properly by Creating Functional Zones

Arranging your furniture properly is key to the best slanted wall bedroom decoration, whether you have low furniture or not. Having low furniture simply makes this step easier.

In simple terms, functional zones are when you divide your room into multiple areas, each for a different activity.

When you’re dividing your bedroom into these zones, make sure that you consider the natural flow of your bedroom and the activities you typically do in your bedroom.

Take this as an example. Most bedrooms with slanted walls are just PERFECT for a reading nook. My suggestion? Make the far corner your personal reading nook. Trust me, you will not regret it one bit.

Use Vertical Space as Storage Space

One of the biggest issues with a bedroom with slanted walls is not having enough storage space for all your items. I don’t recommend just leaving stuff around your bedroom because that’ll ruin all the hard work you’ve spent in decorating your bedroom.

In such cases, using shelves is a great way to store things without spoiling the look of your bedroom.

What if you don’t have high enough ceilings?

As I said earlier, most slanted walls have relatively low ceilings, which is what makes how to decorate a bedroom with slanted walls so much harder. But don’t worry, there’s a really easy workaround for this.

Use any small space as storage space. Here are some creative ideas:

1. Is your bed not completely against your wall? Use the available space between the wall and your bed.
2. Is there space between your desk and the wall? Use that too.
3. Is your bed not completely touching the ground? Place some items under your bed.

Step 3: Enhance Your Lighting and Ambiance

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’d know how much I LOVE lighting. The perfect lighting is where the majority of your aesthetic comes from. And this is especial true when decorating a bedroom with slanted walls.

Let in Natural Light

When I talk about lighting, most people immediately assume artificial lighting. Yes, artificial lighting is important, but what’s just as important (and often overlooked) is natural light.

You need to maximize natural light in your bedroom because it makes your room feel much bigger than it really is. Like I said before, slanted wall bedrooms tend to be quite small, so you should take any step you can to make your space feel larger.

Remember that wallpaper and vines we talked about earlier? Yup, those will look much better with natural light.

You might ask “why do I need wall sconces if I have string lights?” Here’s my answer: to create a focal point.

Wall sconces are a great way to add aesthetic to your bedroom without compromising your space. That’s why I highly advise AGAINST floor lamps or table lamps for a bedroom with slanted walls. They simply take up too much space.

Additionally, note how in the decor idea above, the wall sconces aren’t traditional wall sconces. In other words, they’re not completely “glued” against the wall.

This is really important because normal wall sconces simply won’t look as appealing.
